- give me one or two bands/songs that you listened to this last week: Fashawn's album and Band of Horses
Ok, yes, Fashawn... haven't even heard of him until I had to search for a link to post here, and I'm already impressed with the first song "Life as a Shorty" I'm hearing off the album "Boy Meets World"... a "golden era" feel with a "breath of fresh air." Well done Lombo.
Band of Horses, most people are already familiar with, and I can't say I'm one of those people who got into the band a while ago or listen to them a lot - but this guy's voice is, yes, lovely. Comparable to the Shins. Highly recommend listening to "The Funeral" and "No One's Gonna Love You." The Funeral is probably the most famous, sampled by Kid Cudi, played in the tv show One Tree Hill (I know that because Props is a huge fan), and MTV's My Life as Liz. It brings the momentum of Explosions in the Sky, and emotional value of Ra Ra Riot.
- first cd you bought for yourself: CrazySexyCool by TLC (that damn waterfalls song got me. And I would be more embarrassed if I didn't know that everyone else in the world bought this album too.)
This explains a lot. When we think of the 90s, TLC obviously comes to mind as definitive party music. Guys and girls can rep their music, and I personally love the song Creep.
- last live musical performance you went to: Wiz Khalifa and Wale
Can't lie, when I first heard Wiz Khalifa, I listened to the song "Say Yeah" and thought it was a fake song, or a comical act. That may also have to do with the friend who introduced me, but I've come to the assertion that he's as fun as Lil Wayne, but can spit (in traditional terms) better.
I love Wale, this is known. I saw him live last weekend and will do my review after introducing these friends.
- one show you are really looking forward to seeing this year: Already bought my tix for Lupe Fiasco and BoB
Yes this show is sold out, and I never got my act together, so I'm missing this show. If this is really Lupe's final album (he claimed a while ago I think that he would do only three albums), I will be sad for hip hop. Some people love him, some people think he is overrated and cliche. I think his music is positive and insightful, and fun to listen to in many moments.
B.o.B. - Lombo has been pushing him for a while, and I still an unsure, I do like that single "I'll Be In The Sky"... what do y'all think?
My favorite Band of Horses song: "Our Swords"
ReplyDeleteAnd B.o.B. is great live, and put together a decent mix tape; half the songs seemed like filler or half assed (way too many samples -- wow, Three Dog Night's "One" -- haven't heard that before). I'll have a better idea about him when his album comes out.
Also, TLC's "Red Light Special" accelerated puberty for many 11-12 year old boys back in the day.
Way too many samples.... on a mixtape? That's like way too many italians.... in a vowel-yelling contest. That's just the nature of the beast. B.o.B. can play the guitar, piano, cello, harmonica, violin, drums, and the Kazoo (yes the kazoo). He can sing and rap with the best of them. Aaaaaand eminem just did a song with him for his new album and said that he is the most amazing artist that he has seen out there and he is going to be huge. Point... Lombardi, haha.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you are looking to see Wiz at his finest, take a look at his mixtapes (any of the thousands). I thought his studio album was good but didn't really show how good he was.
I completely agree about "Red Light Special" haha.
ok, wow, didn't know that. so I'm giving B.o.B. more chances, and I'm liking what I'm hearing... Lonley People (Eleanor Rigby Sample) which was originally sampled in a cool song by Talib. Then, there was this
ReplyDeleteDon't Break my Heart (Build Me up Butter cup sample) which was also done by Rhymefest and ODB.
duke dukeeee..and interview me son i have crazy knowledge
ReplyDeleteohh and BOB might be able to play instruments but his music is wack
