Introducing a few friends -- Jstreet

Before my Panama trip, I promised to introduce a few friends who will show up repeatedly in this blog and I had asked them a few questions:
- give me one or two bands/songs that you listened to this last week
- first cd you bought for yourself
- last live musical performance you went to
- one show you are really looking forward to seeing this year

The first one I really should do is jstreet...

a great friend from college, someone who really gets into obscure artists and could sit back watch some crazy HD images, smoke hookah (I don't do this anymore, smoking kills), and go back and forth playing a lot of great music. Generally, he would check out many bands with me when we lived in the same city, and my favorite was probably the Cat Power show we checked out together on a random Monday or Wednesday and her voice easily motivated our decision to drink whiskey post-concert. I wil blog about that another time. He has a cool job where he has direct interaction with the music world, and is someone I always get new music from. Check out this blog that I linked, as well as his last.fm music profile. So his answers to my questions (he provided a few of his own links!) with some of my comments in red:

* bands (i'm into lo-fi, glo-fi shit right now):
o radio dept
o night control
ok so I guess this is lo-fi, glo-fi... hipsters will love it. but really, some relaxing loops and beats, with airy vocals... hopefully that does jstreet's music justice.
* first cd bought: mellon collie and the infinite sadness (smashing pumpkins)... wow, wasn't this so many peoples' first album... great call"
* last live musical performance attended: dirty projectors
"lovely ladies on the vocals, and questlove loves them too! do check out the song "Stillnes is the move"
* most anticipated show of the year: Toro y Moi with the Ruby Suns
i'm going to say that Toro y Moi, pronounced moy, is one of the most understated sounds and bands out there, and i'm so happy jstreet introduced me to this band a while ago. this is a must listen. Check out the song "Low Shoulder"...
