Introducing D MAN

Where to begin describing D MAN? He's probably my oldest friend that I will be introducing - we've known each other since we were 13 or 14 and have somehow endured high school, different colleges and cities, and for the last year D Man has lived in the same city. A great friend, from who I constantly learn about music, D Man is a great musician himself and I continue to look forward to the concerts he and I will attend in the near future. I'll also mention this, many times "partying" or hanging out in high school, would end with D Man, strapping on his guitar and singing for everyone. If I had a link to his music, or figured out how to stream, I would put up some of his songs. For another day.

one or two bands/songs that you listened to this last week: Lissie & Local Natives

Local natives... yes. I've listened to their new album, Gorilla Manor, and simply put, it is AWESOME. Yeah, the pitchfork link will describe it in more depth and better, but you get the three-part harmonies, euphoric chanting, and clattering percussion. They walk the line of maintaining a raw experimental sound to a polished indie sound. They are already blowing up over the blogosphere, and as I hoped for Freelance Whales, they will be top 5 indie darlings of the year.

It is no secret that I love my female artists, and this is the first time I'm listening to Lissie. Lovely voice, and yes, the comparisons to Neko Case's soft tones, and Stevie Nicks' range are true. Definitely listen to her.

First Cd Bought: Boyz II Men, II

Killin me big, seriously? This comes as the biggest surprise answer. Ladies will be happy with this answer, and definitely one of my college roommates Jared who has seen countless Boyz II Men shows throughout his life and even dragged me to a Babyface show (friday confession) will be ecstatic to hear this about D Man. I mean, you really can't go wrong with I'll Make Love To You, we grew up hearing that, it is a classic. This song is getting my friday off to a good start haha.

last live musical performance you went to:
Alberta Cross & Hacienda @ Black Cat

To be fair, I asked these questions over a month ago, and so some of the answers might be outdated... but I went with D Man to this show in early February and it was great. He introduced me to Alberta Cross. Petter Ericson Stakee's voice is insane, and they killed it performing Rise From the Shadows. Heart-wrenching music, the band really pours its soul into the music and you know what, I think I'll have to do another post about these guys. You can lose yourself in their sound.

Hacienda, I was excited for, and they didn't disappoint. They play music that makes it enjoyable to listen live, everyone in the band singing, when I pictured rock from San Antonio, they put on a fun set that really exemplified what I expected. Please listen to She's Got a Hold on Me.

one show you are really looking forward to seeing this year: Dr. Dog & Deer Tick at 930 Club, May 14

Love Love Love Dr. Dog. If you aren't already in the know, please take a listen. You will feel good listening to this band. I think at some point, I'll have to do a separate entry of this band, as they are one of my favorites. They give you everything, upbeat melodic songs, sometimes that classic rock feel, multiple harmonies, and passion. This is one band I've tried to see for a while, and I haven't yet, and I can't make the show on March 14 (brother's graduation!).

Deer Tick I don't know too much about and might be listening to for the first time... and the first song reminds me of what a fresher Tom Petty might sound like. Thoughts?
