Listening and Hearing

Hope you enjoyed Friday's post... spent much of Friday afternoon listening to Blue Scholars. Quick recap of the weekend: Bachelor Party 1, me 0. As a result, I will keep today's post short. Did you figure out the name behind the blog?

I agonized for a while figuring out a great title, wanting to make some great reference to music I love but keeping it fresh. I tried to use a Damian Marley line, but it didn't work out, and all of a sudden it came to me... the scene in White Men Can't Jump with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson arguing about music, whether Woody can "hear" or "only listen" to Jimi Hendrix.

Throw-back movie reference, comedic and intellectual value... at the end of the day, I love music, I love listening to so many different types of music and how it moves my different moods and periods in life, and yes, I appreciate it enough to immerse myself in some songs and hopefully gain an understanding about it and maybe help me think about life (read: me trying to be "deep" again). I believe I can "hear" artists I listen to, like Jimi. Of course it can't hurt to reference a legend that everyone loves and can appreciate, so I pose this question to you loyal readers... What is your favorite Jimi Hendrix song?

For today, I'll go with Voodoo Child. It could probably change daily. Great great great guitar riffs and the line "Lord knows I'm a Voodoo Child" make you want to scream along with Jimi.

  2. You know they're remastering some of his old stuff and releasing it soon? I also have bootleg tapes of him in the studio (I don't want to know how my Dad got them). I need to snag those from my Mom asap.

Also, do you have that instrumentals version of the Blue Scholars album Bayani? It's great for chilling out.
